About Bug Pottery

Bug Pottery is the studio of Angela King, potter and multimedia artist in the Hattiesburg,MS area. Angie names the studio after a childhood nickname. She received her BFA in Ceramics at the University of Southern Mississppi. Angie is originally from the Greater New Orleans area.

Angie's influences range from primitive Etruscan art of the Tuscany region to the contemporary Folk Art of the Mississippi Delta. She spent time in Cortona , Italy where she felt an immediate kinship towards the primitive art of the Etruscans. Years later she would note the similarities in primitive art and folk art. She feels folk art is often held in contempt by modern art critics who do not understand that function and craft have as much a place in the art world as the avant garde.

Angie shown her works of art across the country. She is a published author and has illustrated the cover of an academic text. She is currently focusing on functional pottery with folk art influences. She also dabbles in mixed media canvas pieces. Angela is married and the mother of one child.
